In SWS we are fully aware of the benefits of trees in the urban environment, hence we provide technology and solutions for improving the integration of our still green friends in urban environments.

We also provide technical consultancy from concept design stage to on-site works and maintenance, this to support in the improvement of development conditions of trees in our cities.

Besides their basis function as “urban lungs” plant presence is an element perceived by citizens in a percentage above 80% as a key point to improve urban landscape, specially on its emotional perception. In Spain 79% of his inhabitants live in cities with more than 10.000 citizens.
It has been demonstrated in all studies of urban landscape that vegetal presence is a key element.
Perception is more positive as healthier plants thrive, and a good nexus exists between them and the built elements.

Urban Planning of the future cities has to include in Urbanization Projects criteria and technology that secures an optimal tree development for the specimens that will inhabit urban space in order to create proper urban forest and the benefits derived from its ecosystem.

For example, criteria to select species in correspondence with the space to inhabit, distance to facades, proper adaptation to the environment they will occupy,… all can generate important benefits with the improvement of tree maintenance management e.g. reducing pruning to avoid building affections or infrastructures, reducing phytosanitary treatments using a larger range of species with other more resilient, etc. All of these elements have positive environmental, economic and social outcome.

As fundamental as a proper species selection it is using proper technologies that help to secure along tree life span, a proper root development, with a proper soil volume, the correct air penetration, and water percolation.
SWS provide Solutions that can be used in Urbanization projects that help securing former beneficial effects for root systems development, and in addition, all those Technologies avoid future problems in pavements around tree pits, due to the survival feature that leads to pavement breaking produced by the roots when they don’t find proper conditions for their development.

The required room to grow

In normal conditions there are scarcity of enough of soil volume with proper air and water infiltration, suitable for being explored by root systems within urban environments, it is reduced just to tree pits and near surroundings in the building systems used nowadays.

Permavoid SC system allows placing pavements and road traffic with speeds below 30 km/h, creating a sublevel of soil increasing volume available for root development and improving tree growth conditions.

Load Bearing system

Treebox HP system allows pavement support and can handle vehicle traffic below 30 Km/h, creating a sublevel of soil volume, increasing availability for root development and improving tree conditions.
The system reduces noticeably container effect of present urban building systems which come from a reduced soil volume to be explored by root system, and reduce the need of mechanical anchoring of tree structure.
